Deer Grass

Common name:Deer Grass
Botanical name:Muhlenbergia rigens

Deer grass is a cool season clumping grass with gray-green leaves and spikelets that emerge gray and age to buff. Grass grows 2 to 3 feet tall, with spikelets growing up to 5 feet. A fine choice as a specimen or for mass planting. Useful slope cover for erosion control. Grows in full sun to part shade; tolerates rocky, dry soils; and alkaline and saline conditions. Attractive to birds as both forage and habitat.

Amur Maple

Common name:Amur Maple
Botanical name:Acer ginnala

Amur maple is a relatively small tree or large shrub, generally multi-stemmed, with deeply lobed, palmate leaves. There is a great deal of variability due to a wide range of seed source and grafting stock. This may make it a little tough to predict size and fall color, the two characteristics that make this a stand-out selection for a smaller landscape or parkstrip. If those characteristics are very important to you, shop for plants in the fall, when you can see both it's color and judge its growth rate. Figure about 18 to 25 feet tall and wide.

Boston Ivy

Common name:Boston Ivy
Botanical name:Parthenocissus tricuspidata

This semi-evergreen vine has dark green leaves that are usually lobed and divided into 3 leaflets. Clings with both tendrils and adhesive-like tips that cements itself to all manner of surfaces. Leaves turn orange or red in autumn. Flowers are inconspicuous. During fall, small blue black berries appear to the delight of birds. This vine can grow 50'-60' long but it really depends on what it is growing on. This vine is aggressive.
